UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is a popular payment method in India that allows you to transfer funds between bank accounts instantly. Here are the steps to use UPI to pay bills:
- Download a UPI-enabled mobile banking app: The first step is to download a UPI-enabled mobile banking app on your smartphone. Some of the popular UPI-enabled apps are Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM, etc.
- Register for UPI: Once you’ve downloaded the app, you need to register for UPI by creating a UPI ID and linking your bank account. To do this, you’ll need to provide your bank account details, and the app will verify your account by sending an OTP (One Time Password) to your registered mobile number.
- Choose the biller: After successfully linking your bank acount to your UPI ID, you can now use it to pay bills. Open the UPI-enabled app and select the ‘Bill Payments’ option. You’ll see a list of billers, including electricity, gas, water, mobile, DTH, credit card bills, etc. Choose the biller you want to pay
. - Enter bill details: Once you’ve selected the biller, you’ll be asked to enter the bill amount and any other required details such as the bill reference number, customer ID, etc. Make sure you enter the correct details to avoid any payment issues.
- Verify and confirm the transaction: After entering the bill details, verify the payment details and confirm the transaction. The app will prompt you to enter your UPI PIN to authenticate the transaction. Enter the UPI PIN, and the payment will be processed instantly.
- Receive confirmation: Once the payment is successful, you’ll receive a confirmation message on the app and via SMS/email from your bank.
Note: To use UPI for bill payments, your bank account must be linked to your UPI ID, and the biller must be registered with UPI. Additionally, some billers may charge a convenience fee for using UPI as a payment method, so make sure you check the fees before making the payment.
